Exclusive: Part II. An interview with Mahmoud Abbas.

“Today Gaza, tomorrow Jerusalem.”– Mahmoud Abbas

jewishinfoNews on Skype over a two day period interviewed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Here is the final part of the interview. The first part was published on October 17, 2015.

jewishinfoNews: Mr. President, let’s continue talking about the violence in Jerusalem and other Israeli cities. Prime Minister Netanyahu said yesterday morning in a speech at the 37th World Jewish Congress that the Israelis “are not only fighting a campaign of physical assault on the Jewish State … it is always proceeded and accompanied by an assault on the truth, a campaign of defamation and slander.”

Abbas: Well that is his opinion, isn’t!  Just refer to what I said at my recent speech at the UN. Specifically, I stated that “Israel is scheming to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque.” I called “on the Israeli government, before it is too late, to cease its use of brutal force to impose its plans to undermine the Islamic and Christian sanctuaries in Jerusalem. Unless Israel stops its scheme and its actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the conflict will change from political to religious, creating an explosive situation in Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory.”

jewishinfoNews: Yes, indeed. Netanyahu mentioned it in his speech when he referred to Israel wanting to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque as one of the ten big lies. He said, and I quote, “the only way you can fight lies and especially big lies is to puncture them with the simple truth.” He said that Israel is not seeking to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He added, “This is particularly farcical. It would be farcical if it wasn’t tragic. Israel is the only country that protects the holy sites in the Middle East.  You see the Muslims, the militant Shiites and militant Sunnis blowing each other’s mosques to smithereens… churches, of course, synagogues… ancient sites of great world heritage blown up. The only place where the holy shrines of all are absolutely guaranteed is in Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty and of in the rest of Israel.”

King AbbasAbbas: Cleans his glasses and doesn’t respond.

jewishinfoNews: Mr. President, moving on. Yesterday, The Times of Israel published a report that stated, “A series of videos glorifying the wave of deadly stabbing attacks against Israelis was released Sunday by the Islamic State terrorist group.  The videos, bearing such titles as Abbas JIN October 20 2015 bProject Behead the Jews and Message to the Mujahedin in Jerusalem, were uploaded from sites under Islamic State control in Syria and northern Iraq. Some of the videos spread on social media and were accompanied by the hashtag #BeheadtheJew.”

And a few days ago a picture and text tweeted from a Fatah Twitter account on Oct. 11, 2015 of young Palestinian school girls with yellow Fatah headbands holding a placard with the text: “The settlers are Israeli ISIS”. In addition, in a Abbas JIN October 20 2015 ccartoon published on the website of Fatah’s Information and Culture Commission, Israel is portrayed as an Islamic State executioner dressed in black with a Star of David on his hood and the text “Judaization” across his robe. The executioner is swinging an axe, about to decapitate a Palestinian whose head is the Dome of the Rock. The Palestinian is resting his head on a sleeping chopping block labeled “the international disregard.”

Mr. President, one minute ISIS is telling you to behead the Jews and the next moment Fatah is portraying Israelis as an Islamic State executioner. Which one is it to be? Don’t you think this is utterly bizarre and definitely confusing to your people? If these issues weren’t as grave as they are, all of this might remind us of the comedy routine made famous by Abbott and Costello, “Who’s on First?” Is this democracy? Will you be happy with the diminished international support you might receive because of it?

Abbas: “The international community should support the Palestinian people and continue its aid in all forms, and not punish them or starve them because of their democratic choices. This is happening at a time when the Palestinian Authority is trying to preserve the period of calm and abide by agreements reached with Israel…  Israel is seeking to escalate tensions and explode the situation to avoid fulfilling its commitments.

“If the settlement activities in Palestinian land and construction of the so-called separation wall on confiscated Palestinian land continue, we might soon find ourselves at a situation where the foundation of peace, a free Palestine state living side by side in peace and security in Israel, is a factual impossibility.”

jewishinfoNews: Mr. President, you once said, and I quote, “We will not allow the state of lawlessness, the disorder of weapons, taking law into one’s hands, kidnapping and attacks on government institutions and state land to continue. . . .No one is above the law.”

Abbas: However, I’ll repeat again, “The international community should support the Palestinian people and continue its aid in all forms, and not punish them or starve them because of their democratic choices.”

jewishinfoNews: What democratic choices are you referring to Mr. President? It’s been said that “the biggest danger is that this act of defiance by your children against the PA will turn into a tsunami that will undermine Mahmoud Abbas and the PA in its present format.”

Mr. President, Canadian Tarek Fatah once said, I quote: “Any nation, any society, any country that is created on the basis of a hatred towards the others, will soon run out of people that it can hate or groups it can decimate and it will devour itself.” With your youth running amok, out of control, with pure hate in their eyes and it seems assisting in undermining your leadership, when they’re exhausted with the Israelis, are you afraid your children will turn on you Mr. President?

Abbas: “It is high time that the Palestinian people restore their freedom and independence. It is high time that the decades, the long decades of suffering and pain would stop.”

jewishinfoNews: But Mr. President, your youth are running amok, out of control, with pure hate in their eyes, taking the law into their own hands, killing and maiming Jewish children, mothers and fathers, in fact any one in their way be it Jew or Christian.

Abbas: Stares ahead.

jewishinfoNews: This past May, Ambassador Uri Savir, who has spent his professional life on the strategies of peacemaking in Israel, he established the Peres Center for Peace and is currently the Center’s honorary president said in an article published in al-Monitor, he foresaw what was going to happen. He said: “Jerusalem is at the heart of the Palestinian national struggle for its historical and religious significance in Islam. East Jerusalem is also the only territory occupied in 1967 that was annexed by Israel (except for the Golan Heights). The Palestinians often claim that Israel is attempting to turn the Temple Mount (or Haram al-Sharif) Jewish; it’s a misplaced fear but widely believed. Therefore one can expect that, should an uprising (intifada) break out in the West Bank, it would have Jerusalem as a central theme, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque, which may also become the central battleground.”

It was just over one week ago that Palestinian Media Watch said that while Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, “professes the PA’s alleged wish for peace,” his “own Fatah movement is busy glorifying murder as ‘a symphony of love for Jerusalem.’”

To quote the Fatah Twitter account, “A symphony of love for Jerusalem. If the occupation wants to hear it again and again, it should continue invading Jerusalem, attacking our noble women and desecrating our Noble Sanctuary [the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza] and our Jerusalem.” [Fatah Twitter account, Oct. 12, 2015.]

Abbas: Remains silent.

jewishinfoNews: CNN has quoted you in the past as saying, “Peace and security will never be achieved unless there is an end to the Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, I hereby call on you, Palestinian people wherever you are, to stand together, to close ranks and be alert, to be aware of the Israeli plots to undermine our national mission.” Mr. President, this sounds very much like a call to arms.

Abbas: “The current situation in the Palestinian territories cannot continue, there is no longer a partner for us in Israel and there is nothing for us but to internationalize the issue.

jewishinfoNews: You mean by restoring your people’s freedom and independence you’re wantonly allowing your children to kill Jews? Is that what it’s all about, Mr. President? Is this your way out? Your final hurrah? Finally you see this as personal satisfaction in getting your revenge against Obama and Clinton?

The Local– Austria’s news in English reports:  A group of Austrian right-wing student fraternities known as the Burschenschaften will be marching in Vienna today. Several counter demonstrations are planned, and police are urging restraint.  According to a report in the Heute newspaper, 500 members of the academic Burschenschaften of the Wiener Korporationsring (WKR) have registered with police to march a planned route on Wednesday, starting at 5pm at Josephsplatz. The theme of their march is to celebrate the Festival of Freedom (Fest der Freiheit), and will conclude with a panel discussion at the Palais Palffy at 7pm, with the specially-formed Society for Research into the Revolution of 1848. The Burschenschaften, while claiming to be politically neutral, have a long history of promoting a greater Germany based on language, culture, and democracy. The year 1848 is significant as a time of the March revolutions, which popularized notions of national unity, freedom, democracy and free speech in the German states, and which emphasized pan-Germanism.

Israel National News reports: A masked man invaded a barbecue at a Chicago-area synagogue, shouting anti-Semitic slogans, visitors to the event told Kikar HaShabbat. The incident occurred Sunday at the Anshei Emet synagogue in Chicago, which was hosting a kosher food festival.  Witnesses said that the man entered the area where the event was being held and starting cursing and yelling, saying that “all Jews must be exterminated,” and similar comments. He also waved a posted with swastika on it. Several off-duty police officers were on hand and tried to apprehend him, but were unable to. Police said they would open an investigation. If caught, the culprit could face hate crime charges. Chicago has long been a center of neo-Nazi activity. The most well-known event targeting Jews in the area was a 1977 march by the National Socialist Party of America in the city.

CFCA report: The Jewish community in Colli Portuensi, Rome, [last week] expressed outrage after another antisemitic vandalism was reported on a pasta store.  The incident happened late Monday night, sources told JP. Swastikas and words like ‘Jewish store’ and ‘no Jews in Coli’ were sprayed on the store front.  Jews in Rome are used to seeing antisemitic graffiti once in a while, but this one was more shocking since it mentioned “No Jews at Colli” referring to the area of Colli Portuensi that is a few minutes walk from the Chabad center of Colli, Rabbi Menachem Lazar told JP.

The Netherlands 2014. Antisemitism. A cry for help

De Telegraaf, and other sources in the Netherlands, report: Jewish citizens and organizations have raised the alarm about the growing antisemitism in our country… Dennis Mok, Chairman of the Stichting Bij Leven en Welzijn (Foundation For Life and Welfare), who for forty years has worked for Jewish institutions and events said: “If the government does not act now, the attack in Belgium will be committed here.” Esther Voet, Director of the Center for Information and Documentation Israel (CIDI) received a huge amount of hate tweets on Twitter after the murders at the Jewish Museum in Brussels. She says that texts like “Cancer Jews killed in Belgium” originate from 12-16 year olds of “non-Western” origin. “Anti-Zionist” has become a fashionable honorary title in The Netherlands. Voet added that CIDI is extremely worried about the return of Jihadi fighters from Syria. CIDI also filed a police complaint against the foundation “Stop the Occupation” of Gretta Duisenberg, (the widow of the former president of the European Central Bank) who refuses to remove an article about “The Jewish Control of the World Media” from their website.

WJC reports: The parliaments of Latvia and Estonia launched Israel Allies Caucuses this week, and Christian denominations in both countries rallied in support of Israel, thanks to the efforts of the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus (KCAC), the World Jewish Congress Israel (WJC) and the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ). “The World Jewish Congress is committed to strengthening ties between Israel and Christians around the world, and thanks Christians for their efforts to defend Israel against unfair attacks in their home countries,” said Shai Hermesh, Chairman of World Jewish Congress Israel. “The establishment of Israel Allies Caucuses in Latvia and Estonia represents an important extension of these ties and a recognition of the world influence of Baltic Christians.” Representatives of the three Israel-based organizations traveled to Riga and Tallinn this week for parliamentary meetings and to participate in the Christian gatherings, which drew more than 800 people each. The founding of the Estonian and Latvian Israel Allies Caucuses brings to 30 the number of Parliamentary caucuses in the Israel Allies Foundation global network. The Knesset Christian Allies Caucus, a non-partisan group, seeks to open formal and direct lines of communication between Knesset members and Christian leaders, organizations and political representatives around the world.

European Jewish Press reports: The President of the All-Ukrainian Jewish Congress Vadim Rabinovich, who was a candidate in Ukraine’s last Sunday’s presidential election, is one of the biggest sensations of the poll as he won across the country more votes than both Ukrainian ultranationalist leaders. The election saw the victory of pro-EU businessman Petro Poroshenko, who garnered 53,70 of the votes. About 2,5% of voters casted their votes for Rabinovich, which is in absolute terms equals to more than 400,000 people. Rabinovich came close to Mikhail Dobkin, the candidate of the recently ruling Party of Regions and outrun not only a very well-known activist of Maidan, Olga Bohomolets, but also the two main ultranationalists leaders, Oleg Tvagnybokof Swovoda and the leader of the Right Sector movement Oleg Yarosh. In total Rabinovich won more votes than both of them put together. ‘’Propagandists from the Russian media, who for months blew the trumpets about mass bursts of fascism, neo-Nazism in Ukraine and a total anti-Semitism”, went down in flames – because there is no better contradiction of their speculations and myths than a victory of a Jewish candidate over both leaders of the Ukrainian nationalist organizations,’’ political analysts said. ‘’Vadim Rabinovich managed to prove that Jewish origin of a talented candidate is no longer an insuperable obstacle to gain popularity among the masses of the Ukrainian voters.’’

The UN welcomes yet another antisemite to its roster

COMMENT

“I am glad to be labelled antisemitic”

Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, seen above, was the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia. He held the post for 22 years from 1981 to 2003, making him Malaysia’s longest serving Prime Minister.

Anne Bayefsky of Human Rights Watch announced yesterday that, “The UN has awarded official accreditation to an NGO headed by the antisemitic former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. As its founder and President, Mohamad calls his personal project the ‘Perdana Global Peace Foundation.'”

Bayesfsky added, “Apparently, the title’s reference to the word ‘peace’ was enough to win over the members of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP). That’s the committee formed back in 1975 to implement the Zionism-is-racism resolution and still going strong.”

Bayefsky says, “As far back as September 1986, he [Mahathir Mohamad] gave a speech at a meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, in which he stated: “the expulsion of Jews from the Holy Land 2,000 years ago and the Nazi oppression of Jews have taught them nothing. If anything at all, it has transformed the Jews into the very monsters that they condemn so roundly in their propaganda material. They have been apt pupils of the late Dr. Goebbels.”

In September, 2012 Mahathir Mohamad said: “I am glad to be labelled antisemitic. How can I be otherwise when the Jews who so often talk of the horrors they suffered during the Holocaust show the same Nazi cruelty and hard-heartedness…”

Mahathir Mohamad follows a slew of individuals including:

Richard A. Falk the U.N. special rapporteur on human rights for the Palestinian territories. U.N. Watch called for him to resign, accusing him of antisemitism. The United States followed suit, pushing him to resign, AP reported.

Former Vice President of Iran, Mohammad-Reza Rahimi, who “delivered a baldly antisemitic speech at a 2012 UN sponsored international anti-drug conference, saying that the Talmud, a central text of Judaism, was responsible for the spread of illegal drugs around the world.”

The prime minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in February 2013, “under the crystal chandeliers of Vienna’s ornate Hofberg Palace, delivered a speech in which he called Zionism ‘a crime against humanity’ — equating it with fascism, and, for good measure, Islamophobia and antisemitism. Following his remarks, Erdogan was thanked, and applauded. The occasion was a February 27–28 meeting of an outfit called the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.”

Antisemitic comments are not only the prerogative of senior NGOs, politicians and UN diplomats. In 2006, the World Jewish Congress reported: “”United Nations officials are investigating a recent spate of antisemitic incidents against staff, including the scrawling of Nazi swastikas in a log book intended to upset an Israeli security officer. “These unfortunate incidents are well-known to us and are being investigated internally,” a UN spokesman told the “New York Sun” newspaper. He confirmed that an Israeli national who works for the UN’s security force came across swastikas drawn by a fellow guard in an official book both men they shared, and that following the incident there were two cases in which guards performed a Nazi salute. “The drawing of a swastika represents hate and antisemitism, and it is specifically reprehensible in a year that the General Assembly for the first time passed a resolution on the Holocaust,” Israel’s deputy ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Carmon, told the “New York Sun. “It is also important to look at the way the internal UN system handled the case, and we expect that it will find the correct way to deal with it.” The newspaper also reports of a separate incident at the UN in Vienna in which a female employee was assaulted.””
