-GREECE: A pathetic apology from Seraphim of Piraeus.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING for December 24-25, 2010.

“I respect, revere and love the Jewish people.”

A Statement of Clarification By Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus

jewishinfoNews >>> thanks John Sanidopoulos for the following translation.

Due to public outcry regarding the recent remarks of Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus blaming the current financial crisis on a Zionist conspiracy and making statements that Adolph Hitler was controlled by these same Zionists, the Metropolitan felt the need to clarify his remarks today in his own words below:

On the occasion of the concerns raised by the European Jewish Congress with regard to my interview with the MEGA television channel on the 20th of December, I have to say the following:

1. The things I said during my television appearance on the show “Society Hour Mega” are strictly my personal views and opinions of which I have repeatedly expressed my position verbally and in writing.

2. I respect, revere and love the Jewish people like any other people of our world according to the teaching of the incarnated Son of God and the true Messiah the Lord Jesus Christ the Savior and Redeemer, who was heralded by all the Prophets and was incarnated through the Jewish nation.

3. My public vehement opposition against International Zionism refers to the organ that is the successor of the “Sanhedrin” which altered the faith of the Patriarchs, the Prophets and the Righteous of the Jewish nation through the Talmud, the Rabbinical writings and the Kabbalah into Satanism, and always strives vigorously towards an economic empire set up throughout the world with headquarters in the great land beyond the Atlantic for the prevalence of world government and pan-religion.

4. I consider like any sane person on the planet the Nazi regime and the paranoid dictator Adolf Hitler as horrible criminals against humanity and take a stand with all honor and respect against the Jewish Holocaust and any other heinous genocide such as that of the Pontic Greek and Armenian people. Besides, the Greek nation mourns thousands of martyrs from the criminal Nazi atrocities.

+ The Metropolitan of Piraeus, Seraphim

On December 24, 2010,  from New York, it was left to Dr. Anthony Limberakis to succinctly clarify the Greek community’s horror at the Metropolitan of Piraeus’ antisemitic outburst:

“We cannot be silent in the face of this repugnant attack on our Jewish brothers and sisters. . . His behavior has brought embarrassment and shame…”

Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in America condemn antisemitism, a message from the National Commander.

The Order of Saint Andrew, the First-Called Apostle, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, unequivocally condemn antisemitism, and in particular condemn the egregious anti-Semitic tirade of the Metropolitan of Piraeus broadcast on Greek television this past week. The Order expresses its outrage that a cleric of the Greek Orthodox Church could speak such heinous and outlandish falsehoods directed at any group of human beings. In a statement of the Commander of the Order, Dr. Anthony Limberakis said:

“It is unconscionable that a Hierarch of the Church could speak this way, much less believe these things. As dedicated Church servants who support and defend the religious freedom of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and religious liberty for all people, we cannot be silent in the face of this repugnant attack on our Jewish brothers and sisters. As Orthodox Christians, and as persons of Greek heritage, we are appalled by the behavior, attitude, and malevolent speech of Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus. We say unconditionally that he in no way represents either Orthodox Christianity or the Hellenic ideals. His behavior has brought embarrassment and shame on his high office and we hope he will retract and apologize for his outrageous remarks. As we prepare for the Feast of Christmas, we pray for all people to embrace each other with respect and tolerance glorying God in the highest, with peace on earth and good will amongst women and men.”

Why are you all over reacting? This man is a very educated man. He didn’t say all of the Greek problems were because of the Jews. – (Nik, Australia)

Nik cannot understand what is so offensive in the Metropolitan Seraphim’s statements. After all, he says, the “man is a very educated man … ” Such a defense is a self-inditement. Actually, the Metropolitan is very ignorant, on top of his bigotry. He obviously believes in a global, sinister Jewish and Zionist conspiracy, which is straight out of the Middle Ages and bears no relation to any historical realities. In his “clarification,” the Metropolitan compounds his errors and confirms his malice, by saying that “International Zionism” is the “successor” to the “Sanhedrin” which allegedly altered the faith of Biblical Judaism (which as defined by him is shown in conversion to his own Christianity), and which is identical according to the Metropolitan to Rabbinic Judaism, i.e., the whole of post-Biblical Judaism. He explicitly equates this with “Satanism,” and states that it is aiming at world empire “with headquarters in the great land beyond the Atlantic” (i.e., the United States I suppose, the land of liberty so disturbing to totalitarians). Such demonization of Jews, Judaism and Zionism, as well as modernity and democracy, speaks for itself and cannot be parodied. It is its own parody. He clearly does not “respect, revere and love the Jewish people,” contrary to his own claim. Or rather, this is the Christian love which has crucified endless numbers of Jews and watered Christian lands with Jewish blood for the past two thousand years. It is time for that sort of Christian teachings to stop.-  (Tim Tam, Australia)
