jewishinfoNews has on numerous occasions brought to your attention the role HonestReporting Canada (HRC) plays in monitoring mainstream publishing outlets in Canada. Since many of our internationally-based readers are likely not to be aware of the extent of antisemitism in Canada, the following three articles published this week by HRC might come as a surprise. Here, in part, is what they had to say:
B.C. Radio Station Broadcasts Anti-Semitic Report Accusing Israel of Genocide
As readers of HonestReporting Canada can attest, we almost never accuse news outlets and journalists of antisemitism. Until now.
A March 4 broadcast on CFAX1070 radio by host Ian Jessop (pictured right) repeatedly claimed that Israel is practicing “genocide” against Palestinians, in an effort to erase men, women and children off the map. Such claims are baseless and hateful. The broadcast also accused Israel of using chemical weapons and sordidly linked the situation in the Palestinian territories to the suffering that Jews endured in the concentration camps during the Holocaust that saw the murder of six million Jews.
While criticism of Israel’s policies is legitimate, comments aired on this program, such as accusations that “Israelis (are) murdering Palestinian grandmothers” and are committing “massacres, extra-judicial killings, and … criminal behaviour…” crossed the line of fair criticism to hateful discourse. These kinds of comparisons are not only ignorant and demonstrative of a deep-seated prejudice, they have been described as antisemitic in nature.

The Manitoban Publishes “Apartheid” Screed, Refuses Counter Op-Ed
Writing in the Manitoban, the University of Manitoba’s student newspaper on March 17, Liz Carlyle and Bassam Hozaima fittingly employed the word “imagine” to describe the State of Israel, since their view of Israeli society is based on fantasy borne of either appalling ignorance or prejudice. In direct opposition to Canadian values of human rights, Israel “apartheid” week is the cynical brainchild of radical anti-Israel activists who believe they can fool Canadians into joining the cause of dismantling a democratic UN member state by quoting Nelson Mandela and comparing Israel to apartheid South Africa. Indeed, how else can this group of rabble-rousers gain adherents for their sinister cause other then by inventing facts and spewing rhetoric? By having a little help from their friends at The Manitoban who not only published their screed, but have thus far refused to publish a counter op-ed setting the record straight.
Antisemitic Cartoons Published in Egyptian-Canadian Newspaper
On March 24, Al-Ahram, an Egyptian-Canadian online newspaper published the following antisemitic cartoon:
The heading of the cartoon reads: (translation) “The true relation between the Muslim Brotherhood and the U.S.” The caption says: “Your eminence General Murshid (Supreme Guide) of the international organization”.
The cartoon depicts Jewish control of the U.S. government and suggest that the Muslim Brotherhood was created by a Jewish and American cabal.
And with that, with Passover approaching, the most appropriate response one can surely give to these pathetic, sanctimonious and bigoted creatures is this:
فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ الطُّوفَانَ وَالْجَرَادَ وَالْقُمَّلَ وَالضَّفَادِعَ وَالدَّمَ آيَاتٍ مُّفَصَّلاَتٍ فَاسْتَكْبَرُواْ وَكَانُواْ قَوْمًا مُّجْرِمِينَ
“So We sent (plagues) on them: Wholesale death, Locusts, Lice, Frogs, And Blood: Signs openly self-explained: but they were steeped in arrogance,- a people given to sin.”
So be it!
