“We desire death as you desire life.”
JANUARY 3, 2009 – Western media has done little to explain the incongruities Hamas presents to the world in English and the rabid information they forcefully present in Arabic to the Arabic speaking world.
“Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) monitors Palestinian/Hamas Arabic language media and schoolbooks. They analyze culture and society from numerous perspectives, including studies on summer camps, poetry, schoolbooks, religious ideology, crossword puzzles, and more. PMW has been playing the critical role of documenting the contradictions between the image the Palestinians present to the world.”
The following are a number of examples relating to Hamas that were recently translated from Arabic into English and published by PMW.
Iranian reformist daily: Hamas hiding forces in nurseries and hospitals
An Iranian reformist daily newspaper has criticized Hamas “for risking lives of civilians, amongst them children, by hiding its forces in nurseries and hospitals.” This is reported in today’s Palestinian daily Al-Ayyam. The Palestinian daily adds that in response the Iranian government has closed the newspaper. The following is the story in Al-Ayyam (originally reported by jewishinfonews, Jan. 1 , 2009) :
Headline: “Iran closes a reformist newspaper, for publishing a report criticizing Hamas”
“The Iranian news agency “IRNA” reported yesterday, that the Iranian Culture Ministry has closed the reformist daily newspaper “Karjo Zaran”, because it published a report that included criticism of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
On December 30 the paper published a statement of a reformist student organization that has criticized Hamas for risking lives of civilians, amongst them children, by hiding its forces in nurseries and hospitals. The statement was published whilst the Iranian government expresses a unified stands against Israel, and Tehran is overwhelmed by demonstrations against Israel.” – Al-Ayyam, January 1, 2009.
Hamas explains using civilians as human shields: “We desire death as you desire life.”
The UN announcement that 51 civilians have died in the conflict in Gaza must be understood in the context of Hamas’s declared ideology to use civilians as human shields for Hamas fighters. Indeed, Hamas continues to emphasize and promote the religious ideology that death for Allah is an ideal to be actively pursued. The goal is to convince Palestinians, including women and children, not to fear death but even to face it at the front to protect Hamas fighters.
Hamas’s placement of its military installations and fighters among civilians reflects this ideology, and has led to these 51 deaths
A Hamas representative in the PA legislative council this year expressed pride in the fact that women and children are used as human shields in fighting Israel. He described it as part of a “death industry” at which Palestinians excel, and explained that the Palestinians “desire death” with the same intensity that Israelis “desire life.
The following is the full text of the comments by Hamas representative Fathi Hamad:
“For the Palestinian people death became an industry, at which women excel and so do all people on this land: the elderly excel, the Jihad fighters excel, and the children excel. Accordingly [Palestinians] created a human shield of women, children, the elderly and the Jihad fighters against the Zionist bombing machine, as if they were saying to the Zionist enemy: We desire death as you desire life.” – Al-Aqsa TV (Hamas) Feb. 29, 2008.
Along with today’s TV propaganda in which Hamas depicts itself as a victim, Hamas continues to portray itself as the heroic killer of Israelis. A video on Hamas TV this morning blended pictures of Hamas fighters shooting at Israel with pictures of injured Israelis and medical evacuation scenes. In addition, the visuals include pictures of skulls dripping with blood, captioned: “Let them taste violent death”.
Other narrations and texts include: “Send them to Hell! Tear them to pieces!” “Send them to Hell, Qassam missile!” – PMW. December 29, 2008
Hamas Encouraging Children to Die for Allah on Website
Hamas has a special web site for children, al-fateh.net, where violence is glorified and death for Allah is labelled a “victory.” Al-Fateh means ‘The Conqueror.’ The Shahada deaths of terrorists during attacks against Israel are presented to children as a time of celebration. A mother is quoted on the website as saying that when she heard that her son had become a shahid (martyr); she bought dates, candies and coffee to give out. – PMW. March 7, 2006.
Hamas Video: We will drink the blood of the Jews
The Hamas website this week (February 14, 2006) presented the parting video messages of two Hamas suicide terrorists. One message was for Jews, whose blood Hamas promises to drink until Jews “leave the Muslim countries,” and the second to a mother, as she helps dress her son for battle prior to his suicide terror mission. Each terrorist had a separate message for Jews. This first said:
“My message to the loathed Jews is that there is no god but Allah, we will chase you everywhere! We are a nation that drinks blood, and we know that there is no blood better than the blood of Jews. We will not leave you alone until we have quenched our thirst with your blood, and our children’s thirst with your blood. We will not leave until you leave the Muslim countries.”
The second terrorist said the following:
“In the name of Allah, we will destroy you, blow you up, take revenge against you, [and] purify the land of you, pigs that have defiled our country… This operation is revenge against the sons of monkeys and pigs.” – PMW. February 14, 2006
Palestinian exhibit depicts children in crematorium
Al Ayyam, “The National Committee for defense of Children from the Holocaust opened its activities with a Holocaust exhibit. The Exhibit include a large oven and inside it small children are being burned, the picture speaks for itself.” Another part of the exhibit was a black platform with the words, “Stop the Israel’s Holocausts.” – Al Hayat Al Jadida. March 20, 2008.
Palestinian children in Gaza were gathered for an exhibition that depicts Israel burning children in a crematorium. Young children are seen standing beside dolls being placed into a model of a cremation oven. According to the article in
