Iran slams Saudi uranium proposal
LONDON, November 4 (IranMania) – A top Iranian official says the proposal to form a regional uranium consortium undermines Iran’s legitimate rights as an NPT signatory, PressTV reported.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal told the Middle East Economic Digest (MEED) that the Persian Gulf states were ready to form a consortium and provide Iran with enriched uranium to prevent the escalation of international crises over Tehran’s nuclear program.
The Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission rapporteur Kazem Jalali described the proposal as “totally ambiguous”.
Iran welcomes Arab uranium plan
TEHRAN, November 4 (The Asian Age) – Iran welcomed a recent Arab proposal to set up a consortium to provide West Asian countries with enriched uranium but said it would not halt its own enrichment activities, the official news agency IRNA reported.
“We welcome proposals for our participation in joint enrichment projects with other countries, but it won’t be acceptable if the condition is to stop enrichment in Iran,” IRNA quoted Javad Vaeedi, a top nuclear negotiator, as saying on Saturday.
